Mainz lost 8-1 to Bayern in the Bundesliga on Saturday. However, the severity of the defeat fades into the background due to the human drama that almost took place on the field.
As has now become known, referee Patrick Ittrich (45) prevented a tragedy on the field. In the first half, Mainz professional Joshua Guilavogui (33) remained motionless after a collision and swallowed his tongue. Ittrich immediately rushes to the rescue, puts the player in a stable side position and removes his tongue from his throat.
In this way, Ittrich could save the Frenchman from suffocation. After the match, the full-time police officer explains his intervention: “If someone is lying there like that, you have to act quickly.
