Statistics say that 72 percent of all sentences are commuted. That’s almost three out of four penalties. It’s just a shame that FCZ’s Jonathan Okita was exactly the same shooter who did not score in the 2-3 defeat against Yverdon on Saturday evening.
The penalty is preceded by a foul by Yverdons Alves on Zurich’s best, Bledian Krasniqi. Nine minutes earlier, FCZ had equalized Yverdon’s early lead through Mathew. So now a penalty for Zurich, who clearly have the match under control at the moment.
Jonathan Okita approaches and shoots sharply into the left corner. Not exactly placed, but Yverdon keeper Paul Bernardoni is also quick on the ground and parries. For now.
But the ball bounces forward and Okita can try again while running and from 5 meters away. But he also fails with the second shot, this time miserably. He places the bouncing ball next to the goal.
The Congolese has been without a goal since scoring against Lucerne on December 10. Bledian Krasniqi was asked by a journalist after the match whether he was allowed to shoot and whether there had been other shooters. “I definitely would have liked to shoot,” he admits. “But we would have loved Jonathan if he had scored.”
Krasniqi himself scores his goal anyway – and it’s extremely worth seeing, with a dry shot into the top right corner. It is 2-2 in the 78th minute against the now faltering Vaudois. “I was pretty sure we would win,” Krasniqi said after the match. “The Yverdon players hung their heads after the equalizer.”
But then comes the 86th minute. A Yverdon throw-in from the left, Carlos moves out, Zurich’s defense is disorganised, Cespedes scores the late victory for Yverdon. FCZ goalkeeper Yanick Brecher is angry. Cespedes, on the other hand, speaks of a “sweet success”: “It went very well for us. The saved penalty was the turning point in the match.”
By the way, Okita has converted four out of four penalties since he started playing for FCZ. On Saturday evening the statistics caught up with him with his fifth penalty.
