She wants to ski slalom!: Brignone tortures Gut-Behrami in the ball fight

Anticipation is the greatest joy, right? Lara Gut-Behrami is about to win the big crystal ball.

There is hardly anyone in the ski circuit who still doubts the overall victory of Lara Gut-Behrami (32). Therefore, the question at the moment is not if, but when the 32-year-old will close the bag. There are six races left and she will compete in four races. Her lead over Federica Brignone (It, 33) is 326 points, and that over Mikaela Shiffrin (28, USA) is 385 points. This means: if Gut-Behrami were to extend her lead to more than 400 points next weekend in Åre (Sd), she would no longer be able to take the big crystal ball away from her.

Is this realistic? Yes. But difficult. If Gut-Behrami wins the giant slalom, Brignone is unlikely to finish in the top ten. This is difficult to imagine given the class of the Italian woman.

There is also something on top. Brignone’s mother, former top slalom skier Maria Rosa Quario (62), explains to Blick: “I think my daughter will also do the slalom in Åre. That is the plan.” Although the Milanese has only competed in this discipline three times in the past two years, she proved at the combined World Championships in Méribel (Friday) that she can do it too: Bringnone won gold.

“When the time comes, the time comes”

Brignone’s mother also announced that her daughter will start in the slalom during the World Cup finals in Saalbach (Austria). As a reminder: in addition to the 25 best per discipline, the current junior world champions and athletes who have collected more than 500 World Cup points can also start. Brignone belongs to the latter category. “If Federica feels good, she will start, but she will only decide that the day before after the giant slalom.”

Therefore, Gut-Behrami will not break out in fear and sweat. If she remains healthy, at some point it will no longer be possible to capture her mathematically.

The Ticino woman’s second overall World Cup victory will probably only remain dry in Saalbach. “When the time comes, it’s time,” says Gut-Behrami pragmatically. Either way, this doesn’t diminish their pride in their achievements.
