The long-distance duel with last year’s finalist Biel remains hot until the final round. And Julian Dirt (30) has played a big role in ensuring the SCL Tigers can still hope to make the play-ins.

SCL Tigers – Kloten 5:4 aet Tiger Dirt orchestrates a crazy turnaround(05:06)

The man is a force. On Saturday against Kloten, when the Emmentalers were 1:4 behind and their play-in dreams threatened to evaporate in smoke and mirrors, it was he who made the turnaround. The Tigers score three times in 86 seconds, with dirt being the lightning and thunder with two goals.

The winger, who returned to Langnau this season after three years in Davos, provides sufficient arguments that he can be described as the most important transfer of this season. He has scored more goals than any other signing. There are 21 after the thunderstorm against Kloten.

That’s an impressive value. For a club like the SCL Tigers, where you can usually only afford high-scoring foreigners, this is worth gold. Since 2008/09, when Daniel Steiner scored 24 goals, no Swiss has reached the 20-goal mark for the Tigers.

Tigers have a point to make up

Dirt has long since smashed his personal record in the National League with fifteen goals from the 2016/17 season with Biel. He is not a player who should be judged solely on his goals. He is an energizer. Someone who puts himself in the shoes of the opponent. He’s not above doing the dirty work. His playing style often earns him penalties. With 63 minutes he is number 5 in the competition. In January he was rewarded for his strong season with his first national team in seven years.

The matches against Kloten seem to inspire the striker, who says he plays best when he does not think too much. He had already made a big impression in the last meeting, crushing Zurich’s hopes with a hat-trick in the 5-1 win.

After the Tigers survived the psychologically demanding match against the residents of the airport with a victory (5:4 nV), they will be back in their favorite role as underdogs on Monday. They need to get one more point than Biel in Geneva in the final round to make the play-ins. Because in the event of a draw, the balance of the direct duels (8:4 points) decides for the Langnau team.
