New Jersey’s Playoff Chances Dwindle: Three-Point Fiala Causes Serious Bankruptcy for ‘Swiss Devils’

Kevin Fiala, who is in top form, played a big role in the Los Angeles Kings’ 5-1 win against the Swiss Devils. The 27-year-old from Eastern Switzerland scored in the 33rd minute in the powerplay to make it 4-1 and was credited with an assist 34 seconds before making it 3-1 and 5-1 (58th). Fiala managed to take three points for the second time in a row, the third time this season. After 60 games this season he has 19 goals and 36 assists.

Philipp Danault is currently a goal scorer for the Kings. The only goal of the guests to make it 1-0 after just 15 seconds was a Swiss co-production: Timo Meier scored his 13th goal in the current championship after an assist from Nico Hischier. The Devils couldn’t accomplish more despite a 31-to-23 shooting ratio.

Visiting goalkeeper Nico Daws is replaced in the 33rd minute by the Swiss Akira Schmid, who cannot be beaten – the Kings’ 1:5 is a shot into the empty net. Jonas Siegenthaler also plays for New Jersey.

After the fifth defeat in the last seven games, things are becoming increasingly uncomfortable for the Devils in the battle for the play-off places: the gap is currently seven points. New Jersey has 21 games left to avoid a disappointing early end to the season.

Suter and Niederreiter on course for the play-offs

Things are looking much better for the Vancouver Canucks with Pius Suter and the Winnipeg Jets with Nino Niederreiter. They are ranked 2nd and 5th in the league respectively. The Canucks win 2-1 at the Anaheim Ducks, the Jets beat the Buffalo Sabers 5-2. Niederreiter scored the 1-1 six seconds before the first break – his 17th goal in the current championship.

Janis Moser wins 5-2 with the Arizona Coyotes at the Washington Capitals. It is the second win in a row for the guests, after losing fourteen times in a row. (SDA/dti)
