FC Aarau achieved its first victory in the Challenge League in the third game of the season against Neuchâtel Xamax. Thanks to the 2-0 home win, Alex Frei’s team improved to 3rd place.
Xamax was the only team against which FC Aarau did not score any points this season. Neuchâtel won in the preliminary round with 3:2 and 2:1. This time, however, the in-form Valon Fazliu made the difference in FCA’s favor. The attacking midfielder made it 1-0 in the 25th minute and scored his tenth goal of the season shortly after halftime. Fazliu has scored eight times in the last eight games.
Thanks to the ninth win in the 24th match of the season, Aarau moved past Wil in the rankings, but is still twelve points behind second-placed Thun in third place. Wil is once again unable to overcome his weakness away from home in the 1-1 draw against Stade Nyonnais. The Eastern Swiss team achieved their last victory on foreign soil at the end of August with a 5-0 win against newly promoted Baden. (SDA)
