Last Saturday, Marco Odermatt (26) celebrated his tenth consecutive victory in the giant slalom. In total, the Swiss team shines with six athletes in the top 15. After the race, Odermatt is asked if there is still time for celebration. He told ORF: “With this team effort, we will definitely enjoy it a bit.”
Now the ski high-flyer from Nidwalden provides proof on Instagram that he has put this plan into action. “It’s not always just about racing and winning… it’s also about having fun and enjoying life,” he wrote in a series of photos showing what he has been through in recent days. He is enjoying some free time with Gino Caviezel (31) and Justin Murisier (32) until the next giant slalom is scheduled for Friday. In addition to a trip to Lake Tahoe and an animal encounter, the strong performance in Palisades Tahoe (USA) was also toasted with a beer.
The trio also did not miss the opportunity to take a freeride trip in Aspen (USA). The photos that Odermatt publishes are spectacular. In the middle of nature he flies through the air on his skis and then ends up in the powder snow. His followers are enthusiastic about the snaps.
“One of the best contributions I’ve seen from a World Cup skier in a long time,” wrote one. And another added: “Very cool. It is probably exactly part of your recipe for success, to relax every now and then or have a beer with friends.”
The ski stars are once again living in a villa in Aspen. They came to this shelter by chance a year ago – because they were initially housed in a terrible demolition building. As a result, they met a man who then made available to them the villa of a Swiss colleague. It later turned out that it belonged to Christian Sachs, the son of the legendary Gunter Sachs (1932–2011). “When we moved in, we were shocked because the house was a villa with three swimming pools, two bars, a cinema and a gym,” Odermatt recalls. Because they were able to make Sachs happy with racing suits and starting numbers for his children, they can live there again this year.
And not only that is the same as last year. In 2023, Odermatt also took advantage of the February trip to the US to take a deep breath. As the brand new two-time world champion, he made San Francisco unsafe with Caviezel and Semyel Bissig (26). (beer)
