GC coach Bruno Berner (46) does not feel like talking after the 0-1 defeat against Lucerne. The frustration runs too deep. At the press conference, after his counterpart Mario Frick’s brief match analysis, he said just five words: “I agree with Mario.”
Berner does not want to explain more on his own initiative. It actually requires a lot of explanation. After all, the Hoppers’ performance is bloodless after last week’s win against Basel (2-1). In the ninety minutes of Saturday evening they barely put one foot in front of the other. The fact that the match ends with only one goal difference is solely due to Lucerne’s inefficiency.
When asked, Berner then found a few words about the defeat: “Lucerne was superior to us in many points. Without him, GC seemed insecure, unstable and fed up. Isn’t that scary? “It’s an incredibly important element. Yes, we missed him today. But I don’t just accept that. It is always an opportunity for others, especially young people, who also want to have a career like Abrashi.”
The boys did not seize the opportunity against Lucerne. That much is certain. Even though Berner says the game is a tremendous experience for his young people. But in the end it’s all about points. He knows that too: “Now we have to make a good analysis. We have to improve to score points in the Super League.” A look at the table shows how much the record champions depend on points. The barrage is suddenly closer than the line. And in a week it will be against SLO.
