It was a huge shock when I heard that Sandro was in intensive care. That touched me deeply,” says Schwyzer in an interview conducted by Swiss Sliding.

Vogt is now recovering at home from his severe concussion (“I still feel dizzy sometimes”) and his bruises. After his Rega repatriation, Michel is also back in Switzerland on Thursday, where he is recovering from his three operations and serious chest and hip injuries.

Vogt and Michel have risen to the top of the world together since their World Cup debut. Now autumn changes everything. «In the beginning it was difficult for me. It was good for me to talk to him on the phone this week. Ever since he got his cell phone back, we’ve been texting each other. “Fortunately he is doing better and fortunately the worst has been prevented,” says Vogt, noting that the Aargauer’s life was in danger at times.

Comeback plans for the time being only for the two-man bobsleigh

Now they’ll meet at the hospital bedside this weekend instead of racing for the World Cup podium in the two-man bobsleigh. “It hurts that we can’t fight for the medals. But what’s more important now is that Sandro is over the mountain. “I am very happy that I can visit him soon,” said the pilot.

Even though Vogt makes no excuses for his fall, it still bothers him that his sled sliding back from the finish line so seriously injured his colleague who was lying on the track. The Schwyzer is now calling for better safety measures so that slipping bobsleighs are stopped by marshals. Also because the problem has been known in Altenberg for some time.

And his comeback? Vogt is targeting the March race in Lake Placid when he feels physically and mentally ready. But only in the two – the four are significantly damaged.
