Tennis player Botic van de Zandschulp can look forward to a nice poster in Basel. After defeating Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the first round, he now meets Carlos Alcarez, the world number one.
Van de Zandschulp defeated Mannarino in three sets on Tuesday evening: 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 4. It wasn’t easy, the match lasted almost three hours.
Alcaraz also struggled to qualify for the next round. The Spanish world No. 1 prevailed against Britain’s Jack Draper in their first appearance in Basel: 3-6, 6-2 and 7-5.
Last week Van de Zandschulp disappointingly lost to Swiss qualifier Dominic Stricker in Antwerp. The number 136 in the world left the Dutchman without a chance in the first round.
After the tournament in Basel, Van de Zandschulp will end his individual season at the Masters tournament in Paris. After that he will take part in the Davis Cup final in Malaga with Orange.
