In the universe of ice hockey, the world is flat. You can say that without immediately putting yourself forward as a member of the ‘Flat Earth Society’. Despite solid scientific evidence to the contrary, they continue to believe that the Earth is flat. One of these proofs could even be the global dominance of football, because if the Earth were really flat and not a sphere, perhaps billions of people would not be football fans, but ice hockey fans. Ice hockey players are a minority in the sports world because they fight for a disc and not a ball.

But what is this all about? It is a declaration of love for the sport that has fascinated the author since his childhood. First it was the Soviets and the Czechoslovaks who conjured combinations on television in the 1970s, then the Canadians suddenly delighted people with their rudeness. Finally, the first attempts at walking take place on the ice, leathery, soft skates are laced into musty wardrobes, countless falls are followed by the blissful moment of fusion when you finally master it: skating without thinking about it. Flying alone is more beautiful.

It’s like a pinball machine

Only then can you use the stick to expertly fillet the target, guide it on the stick, shoot high or low or aim wherever you want. It is similar to pinball: the beginner watches in disbelief as the ball does what he wants. The expert keeps them in the game and brings them to the goal with pinpoint accuracy.
