Roman Josi hopes: Which NHL stars can Fischer expect at the World Cup?

On May 23, 2019, Roman Josi (pictured against Sam Reinhart) was playing against Canada in the quarter-finals when Switzerland conceded the equalizer at the last second, for the last time for the national team.

There are ten Swiss working in the NHL. It can be assumed that anyone who is healthy, has a contract for next season, is released by his club after the season and cannot play for personal reasons will join the national team. But it rarely makes sense to nominate players who have gone through the grueling process of two rounds of play-offs.

The final qualifying matches will take place on April 19 and the World Cup in Prague will start on May 10. The first play-off round also ended before the World Cup started.

To estimate the probability that the ten Swiss will participate in the World Cup, Blick used the projection of the NHL teams from “The Athletic”.

Philipp Kurashev (24, Chicago) 100%

The Bern native is having his most productive season (32 points in 49 games) – on the first line of the Blackhawks, the weakest team in the league.

Commentator goes crazy: Kurashev gets a dream assist(00:26)

Roman Josi (33, Nashville) 93%

The projection, which is based on 50,000 simulations, gives the Predators a 25 percent playoff chance. The chance that Josi & Co. will survive the first play-off round is estimated at 7%. It would be the first time since 2019 that the two-time silver hero will participate in a World Cup.

Puck goes through the jersey: With this strange goal, Josi leads his team to victory(00:22)

JJ Moser (23, Arizona) 85%

Arizona will miss the playoffs. Moser can expect a significant pay increase when his contract expires. This could pose an obstacle for the World Cup if he does not extend it in advance.

Nico Hischier (25, New Jersey) 79%

At the start of the season, the Devils were projected to have a 94% playoff chance. After a season with injuries and goalkeeper problems, this now stands at 51%. The team recently started work. Not least thanks to Captain Hischier.

Timo Meier (27, New Jersey) 79%

Coach Lindy Ruff signals an upward trend for the goalkeeper, who is also having a mixed season due to injury problems.

Luxury outdoor games: Meier: “We had seat heating”(01:05)

Jonas Siegenthaler (26, New Jersey) 79%

The defensive specialist is back after a month and a half break (foot fracture).

Akira Schmid (23, New Jersey) 70%

His contract expires at the end of the season. He was brought back from the AHL on February 12 and has since seen rival Nico Daws (23, De) shine from the bench.

Kevin Fiala (27, Los Angeles) 59%

The Kings, who faded after a good start and replaced coach Todd McLellan with Jim Hiller, will likely make the playoffs. Big leaps are not expected there.

Kings lose: These are Kevin Fiala’s goals(00:59)

Pius Suter (27, Vancouver) 46%

The surprise team is currently number 1 in the competition. With a view to the play-offs, it has already been strengthened with Elias Lindholm (from Calgary).

If the Canucks lose: Pius Suter shines with a hat-trick in a third(00:44)

Nino Niederreiter (31, Winnipeg) 41%

The projection gives the Jets a slightly better chance in the playoffs (8% of winning the Stanley Cup). They upgraded for the playoffs with Sean Monahan (from Montreal).
