What a day! Elvedina Muzaferija shines at the World Cup in Crans-Montana. On Saturday she races to fourth place.

In August 2023, a news report shocked Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Gradačac, a man murdered his ex-partner on camera. Some Instagram followers cheered him on, others hit the ‘Like’ symbol. “Such tragedies happen again and again in my country. Unfortunately, women in Bosnia are often not as accepted as men. “I try to use my fame to make a change,” Elvedina Muzaferija told Blick.

People in the ski circus are less and less likely to ask who Muzaferija is. Because the 24-year-old made history. She is the first person from Bosnia and Herzegovina to ever win the European Cup. She achieved this feat just over a week ago in Crans-Montana.

A few days later she confirmed her victory at the World Cup. Muzaferija thundered to fourth place in the second descent and only missed the podium, where Lara Gut-Behrami (32) finished third, by eleven hundredths.

Your budget? 125,000 francs

“Lara is my idol,” says Muzaferija. She explains that she would also like to have a large bandage like the one from Ticino on her back. Although she receives 15,000 francs a year, that is not much. “I need about 125,000 francs per season. It is not easy to find sponsors.”

As a speed specialist from an exotic ski country, Muzaferija is having a particularly difficult time. “I have to make compromises, especially in summer and autumn, because ski training is hardly possible. That’s why I usually start towards the end of winter.”

For them there is no such thing as impossible

Muzaferija grew up in Visoko, about an hour and a half drive from Sarajevo and the nearest ski resort. “When I was five, my parents let me go to ski school. And because they were also beginners, they learned it right away,” she says, laughing.

Muzaferija looks ahead: “I would like to win the World Cup one day. And win a medal at the Olympics. Impossible? “I have heard this word from many people in the past. I never listened to her. And I won’t do it again in the future.”
