The facial expression of Joshua Kimmich (29) after his substitution speaks volumes. Stunned. Confused. Disappointed. And probably quite angry too. After 70 minutes, the embarrassment in Bochum (2:3) is over for the Bayern star and he has to come off the field.
He doesn’t like that at all and leaves the field in his 250th Bundesliga match with an argument. Kimmich also expressed his displeasure after the final whistle and argued with assistant coach Zsolt Löw (44) on the way to the dressing room. As “AZ” reporter Patrick Strasser reports, there were “angry arguments and almost a scuffle” between the two. Apparently emotions have run so high that captain Manuel Neuer (37) has to intervene.
Bavarian CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen did not notice the incident, but only read about it. The 56-year-old suspect: “Josh must have been served fairly well on the substitution bench. But that is also normal. Understandably, he’s just angry at that moment. Coach Thomas Tuchel (50) also “knows what was going on”, but says that the matter is not open to the public. “It’s very normal in sport when things stay within limits – and they stayed that way.”
After his interview with the pay-TV channel Dazn, there was radio silence from the outside world. At the official PK after the match, Tuchel, who was guaranteed a job by Dreesen immediately after the match, was no longer present and Bayern had to rush to the airport.
The fact that Kimmich’s nerves are somewhat frayed probably also has to do with his role under Tuchel. There was already friction between the two in the preliminary round. Including when Tuchel complained about a lack of six in the selection. Kimmich’s response: “I’m a six.” Sky expert Didi Hamann (50) concluded at the time: “Kimmich now knows that the coach does not think he is good enough for this role.”
The two games against leader Leverkusen show how central – or not – Kimmich is in Tuchel’s game. In the first leg (2-2 on September 15), the German international was over after 61 minutes and was only substituted a week ago.
It is simply a symbol of the current Bayern crisis: red collector Dayot Upamecano (25), the otherwise accurate Harry Kane (30), who mutates into the death of opportunities (missed two top chances against Bochum) and the ongoing discussions about the skinny Tuchel There are more types with a skin color. Leon Goretzka (29) sees the championship title disappearing: “It is not that realistic at the moment.”
