The celebration of FCZ’s last-minute victory in Lucerne is grand. Not just for the 2,500 fans who arrived. The players are also celebrating. They do this with loud music from the Big Mood playlist on the streaming service Spotify.
Has Bo Henriksen (49), who moved to Mainz a few days ago, seen his former players play? The FCZ doesn’t care. In any case, there is little that reminds me of the Dane.
Starting with the game system. Henriksen’s 3-4-3 is history for now. New head coaching duo Murat Ural (36) and Umberto Romano (51) – the latter was absent from Lucerne due to illness – opted for the 4-2-3-1 as their new system. Suddenly the people of Zurich are back to a classic nine.
This brings us directly to the second post-Henriksen innovation: our own young people are given a real chance again. The first to get it is striker Junior Ligue (18) as the only top. Nils Reichmuth (21) and Cheveyo Tsawa (17; professional debut) will also come into action later. And Armstrong Oko-Flex (21), who was brought in in the summer.
The joy about the home-grown plants is great. “They did very well and seized their opportunity,” praises Ural. That’s how it should be, he adds. If you’re allowed to play, you have to tear yourself apart during your minutes on the field. “If they continue like this, they will always be an option in the future,” assures the Turkish-Swiss dual national.
The spirit of optimism is really noticeable at the FCZ. “It’s a different way we want to play. You’ve seen some of it. But we are still far from where we want to be,” explains goalkeeper Yanick Brecher (30). Assistant coach Ural sees potential for improvement, especially in the third zone. “We have to find solutions when the opponent is low,” he explains.
The second 1-0 win in a row gives Zurich the peace they need to focus on new approaches and deepen them in the coming days. “Points bring peace,” says Brecher. And promises that you can look forward to what’s to come.
