Good final point after a failed major event: Stalder saves the Swiss honor at the Biathlon World Cup

Sebastian Stalder finished the World Championship in seventh place – with a top shooting performance.

From a Swiss perspective, there is still reason to be happy in the very last race of the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto (Tsch). Sebastian Stalder achieved a strong seventh place in the mass start competition – and is therefore concerned about limiting the damage after a completely failed world championship.

Stalder achieved the only individual top 10 result for the Swiss hopeful who arrived on the back of an impressive shooting performance – with 20 goals from 20 shots. The 26-year-old Wald ZH never comes close to the podium, ultimately falling about 40 seconds short of the medal, but his performance is still a ray of hope. And a conciliatory conclusion after about a week and a half in which not much came together at Swiss-Ski.

Neither the sporting performance nor the equipment could keep up with the international competition. Niklas Hartweg finished the mass start race in 22nd place – with better skis finally under his feet, but he had to complete five penalty laps.

Another disappointment for Häcki-Gross

For Lena Häcki-Gross, who celebrated her first World Cup victory before the World Cup and therefore traveled to the Czech Republic very ambitiously, the big event ended in disappointment. In the mass start she finished in 24th place with five shooting errors. It is also a result that is symbolic of the Football World Cup in the Czech Republic.

Frenchwoman Justine Braisaz-Bouchet won the women’s race and achieved all objectives. And in the men’s category, Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bö was victorious, for whom it was already his twentieth gold World Championship medal, bringing him level with compatriot and biathlon legend Ole Einar Björndalen.
