Vincent Cavin (48), assistant to Murat Yakin from 2021 to 2023
After Murat Yakin was appointed as Nati coach within the SFV, de Romand rose from video analyst to assistant coach. Resigned from this position at the end of 2023, partly because changes were being sought in the technical staff. He is now the new USA assistant coach.
Antonio Manicone (58), assistant to Vladimir Pektkovic from 2014 to 2021
Was the faithful companion of Vladimir Petkovic and was by his side at Lazio (2012 – 2014), at Nati (2014 – 2021) and during the short intermezzo in Bordeaux (2021 – 2022). The Italian then went his own way and became assistant coach of the Iranian national team last summer.
Michel Pont (69), assistant to Ottmar Hitzfeld from 2008 to 2014 and assistant to Köbi Kuhn from 2001 to 2008
The former coach of Chenois, Carouge and Lugano first became a loyal companion of Köbi Kuhn and then of Ottmar Hitzfeld. He was Nati’s assistant coach for no fewer than 13 years and, as Romand, also ensured linguistic balance in the Nati staff. With Hitzfeld’s departure after the 2014 World Cup, Pont also left the stage.
Daniel Romeo (73), assistant to Enzo Trossero in 2000 until 2001
Enzo Trossero had brought along his Argentinian compatriot for his short term in office. After missing out on qualifying for the 2002 World Cup, both were gone again. Later (2003 – 2004), Romeo re-emerged on the international stage as coach of the Saudi Arabia U20 national team.
Martin Brunner (60), assistant to Hans-Peter Zaugg 2000
The former Nati goalkeeper stepped in when former assistant coach Hans-Peter Zaugg was appointed as interim coach of the Nati. Shortly before, the ex-GC and Lausanne goalkeeper had just ended his active career. After a short period as Zaugg assistant, Brunner became a goalkeeper coach for the U21 national team and at FCZ.
Hans-Peter Zaugg (71), assistant to Gilbert Gress from 1998 to 1999, Rolf Fringer in 1996 until 1997, Artur Jorge 1996 and Roy Hodgson 1992 until 1995
The second faithful assistant soul next to Michel Pont. The Bernese survived the terms of Roy Hodgson (92 – 95), Artur Jorge (96), Rolf Fringer (96 – 97) and Gilbert Gress (98 – 99). He also served as an interim solution for two months in 2000 before Enzo Trossero took his job. Zaugg, now 71, later also coached GC, Luzern, YB and Liechtenstein, among others.
