In this case: that sometimes they even happen at the same time. When Filip Ugrinic scored the 1-2 against Sporting Lisbon, he screamed into the night sky of Bern – not with joy, but with pain.

The unfortunate Ugrinic gets injured when he finishes just after the second goal (42′). He pays the price for his determination. The 25-year-old also shone as one of the most committed players in Wankdorf in the minutes before. When he has the ball, he initiates movement. And when he sees an opportunity to score, he goes for it. He reaches the ball the necessary millisecond before Sporting defender Eduardo Quaresma sinks the ball into the net, but is hit hard on the foot by the young Portuguese.

Ugrinic made his debut as a player for the Swiss national team last fall and played in two European Championship qualifiers under Murat Yakin in November. If he continues to use his great determination on the field, the dream of participating with the national team in the summer fairytale in Germany in June will become a reality. It would be an almost cruel gesture of fate if Ugrinic were to thwart his resolve.
