As a lone fighter on the ski slopes, Marco Odermatt (26) has been almost invincible for a long time. And now the two-time World Cup winner, two-time world champion and giant Olympic champion also shines as a doubles partner of tennis maestro Roger Federer (42). Odermatt made a commercial for Sunrise with the twenty-time Grand Slam champion in Andermatt UR. And all this in the most stressful phase of the World Cup winter.
On December 10, the day after his big win in Val-d’Isère, the man from Nidwalden drove to Urnerland in the early hours of the morning to film with Federer before heading to the World Cup matches in Val Gardena/Alta via Sports. Awards Gala Badia (with five races in five days) had to travel further. “Normally I wouldn’t have shot a TV commercial at this stage. But when I found out it was all going to happen with Roger Federer, I decided to take the stress on myself.”
And the two Swiss athletes of the century were a perfect match on this occasion. That wasn’t always the case. “When I first met Roger a few years ago, I was so impressed that no real conversation ever took place. This time it was completely different. We had a lot of fun together, the activity with Roger was a great experience for me.”
A study by Nielsen, the world leader in data and analysis, shows that our Alpine King no longer has to be in awe when he meets King Roger. Accordingly, Odermatt pushed Federer off the top of the Swiss popularity rankings last spring.
