Will Boris Becker start working as a coach again soon?

In October, Boris Becker (56) became trainer of tennis talent Holger Rune (20, ATP 7). In the meantime, he and ex-Federer coach Severin Lüthi (48) supported the Dane with advice and assistance. However, this collaboration was only short-lived. First Lüthi left the team, after which Becker also decided to part ways.

“Over time I realized that I have to be available to Holger much more than I can,” said Becker, who explained this move on X. But the six-time Grand Slam winner could soon land a new coaching job.

There is and always has been an opportunity

As Alexander Zverev (26, ATP 6) told the German news agency, he could imagine working with his German compatriot. “There is always a chance, and there always has been,” Zverev said. However, he adds: “If you think about bringing in someone like Boris, it is to win the big tournaments. And that is why the coach must of course be there at the major tournaments.”

And it is precisely this argument that can lead to no cooperation after all. Because Becker, who was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for insolvency crimes and spent almost eight months behind bars, always has problems entering other countries. Last year he was banned from traveling to Australia, England and the US. Three of the four Grand Slam tournaments take place there. Becker could only be there at the French Open.

Zverev has been in the semi-finals in Paris for the past three years. The Olympic champion still misses a Grand Slam title. It remains to be seen whether Becker could help him achieve this. Zverev would certainly be fascinated by the collaboration. Seeing how a former tennis star behaves in certain situations and thinking you can always learn something new, he says. (beer)
