Two months have passed since the devastating fall during training that left Wendy Holdener, 30, with a fracture to her left ankle. Now there is good news from the Schwyz woman. As she shows on Instagram, she can ski again.
“Your girl is back,” she captioned a video of her taking a few turns. And adds: “Almost, anyway.” Holdener indicated early last week that she would be back on skis soon. In the “Podcast at the edge of the slopes” she revealed that that is why she is getting new ski boots. The reason: “I have a plate and four screws in my foot, the tissue around it is a little swollen and will remain that way until the plate is removed again.”
Holdener hopes the new shoes will give him “the best chance to get back on the sticks quickly and lead the way.” With the adjustments, a filling has also been applied so that the scar does not get too much pressure. The technology specialist was also surprised that she was able to get back on skis so quickly.
A week ago her biggest challenge was climbing stairs. “I can almost walk down step by step,” she says in the podcast. A feeling of satisfaction after a small setback the week before. The physio went so well that she did too much. That felt like two steps backwards.
These are now forgotten as we return to the snow. What a possible World Cup comeback will look like this season is still an open question. In mid-January, Holdener said she would like to race again this winter. “My chances are 50:50.”
