He never did that in Zurich: as soon as he arrived in Mainz, Henriksen already spoke German

A gigantic task awaits Bo Henriksen (49) in Mainz. He must save the carnival club from relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga. The Dane is not afraid of failure – on the contrary. He made this clear on Tuesday afternoon during his introductory press conference. “Happy Bo” also exudes complete confidence in Mainz, as we got to know him well in this country.

Henriksen even does this in German at the beginning of the forty-minute PK. Something he has never done in this country. But later he switches to his usual English. Mainz is four points behind the relegation place. “I have never been relegated,” says the ex-FCZ coach confidently. He proved last year in Zurich that he can withstand relegation. The team from Mainz takes new courage from this.

A windfall for everyone involved

However, Henriksen does not reveal how his sudden switch to the Bundesliga came about. When asked by Blick, the FCZ also did not want to comment further on the departure. Mainz sports director Christian Heidel (60) tells us a little more about it: “We had the first contact last Friday afternoon. We signed the contract on Monday evening at Rose.” In between there is the derby that we won against the classification (1-0) and two Fridays that Henriksen gave his now ex-team.

It obviously comes as no surprise that Henriksen ends up in Mainz. He was already under discussion in December as the successor to Bo Svensson (44). Those responsible at the time chose Jan Siewert (41). Two months later, the penultimate player in the Bundesliga now bets on Henriksen and gives him a contract until 2026, which remains valid even in the event of relegation.
