What an unforgettable working day! The Swiss Samantha Banz (29) is in the middle of the Super Bowl. As general manager, she is responsible for the entire food and beverage area in the VIP sector. Your Sunday at the stadium starts at 5 a.m. and ends sometime in the middle of the night. “In a few days, all the stress will be forgotten,” the American elected official told Blick.
Then there’s the pride of having participated in the Super Bowl with the most TV viewers in NFL history. Banz describes that it was quite quiet for a long time after the stadium opened at 11 a.m. But at some point the large crowd of approximately 6,000 VIPs arrives in the boxes and in the exclusive “Premium Club”.
“For a while I just ran around the entire stadium,” says the Aargau resident with a smile, “the most important thing was to make sure the beer didn’t run out. But our team did a fantastic job.” Also when it comes to setting up the fine buffets with lobster, shrimp, Wagyu, oysters and so on. Time is everything. Also because of ice sculptures.
“Our Shrimp Tower can be seen in the background of many photos of Brittany Mahomes,” says Banz proudly about the wife of winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is of course present in the stadium as a VIP. «We wanted to create a wow effect for the guests with many details. I think we did that.” Banz only casually notes many of the super-celebrities: “Khloe Kardashian ate our ice cream.”
Many of the guests in the boxes appear in the media surrounding the game. First and foremost, of course, Taylor Swift – who is caught on camera having a beer with her ex. Banz: “I don’t even know if it was real beer. It could have been champagne. Our chef de cuisine, Robin Rosenberg, personally went to all the two teams’ suites and delivered champagne to sushi and the shrimp cocktail tower.”
But the real hit in the VIP sector when it comes to drinks is something else. A margarita – the rim of the glass is finished with silver and black salt, a reminder of Banz’s employer Silver & Black Hospitality.
Despite all the stress, Banz is able to enjoy the Super Bowl for a few minutes, as hoped. “I saw a bit of Usher in the halftime show. That really gave me the feeling: Wow, I’m in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl, we’ve worked hard for this for nine months.”
The Swiss also gets to see the grand finale in extra time, complete with a rain of confetti, because hardly any guests order anything. But the secret highlight comes two hours after the decision. The stadium employees are allowed onto the field and toast with champagne on an unforgettable working day.
