Grbic’s 45 minutes were the only positive: a glimmer of hope on a gloomy FCL carnival weekend

A football match lasts ninety minutes. Even in the time of fools. So it’s just as inconvenient if you only play half. But that is exactly what FC Luzern did again this season against Winterthur. It is no surprise to anyone that the residents of Central Switzerland returned home empty-handed.

The residents of Lucerne still took something positive home with them. Namely the performance of new addition Adrian Grbic (27). The Austrian disappeared in the second half just like the rest of the team. But his first 45 minutes, in which he converted the penalty to take the lead, gave the FCL fans hope that they would finally have a real goal-getter in their own ranks again.

Lots of self-confidence despite a lack of competition training

Despite scoring a goal on his debut, Grbic is not completely satisfied with himself. “I could have started a little better by scoring a second or third. But it is not a dream concert,” said the new number 9. In fact, he had a chance.

But it would be wrong to judge a striker like Grbic solely on goals on his debut. Especially because he has had no competition training for many months. He only played 30 minutes for Lorient in the first half of the season. But he showed no sign of insecurity or nervousness, on the contrary. Otherwise you won’t be able to integrate into the game of a new team as quickly or grab the balls for the immediate set pieces.

Coach Mario Frick (49) still does not want to praise him to the heavens. That would have been presumptuous given the defeat. “He has received a lot of deals and he has qualities,” is all the Liechtensteiner says. Grbic’s first 45 minutes in blue and white leave you wanting more. And it bodes well that he will find his nose for goals again during his third loan spell in three years.
