Now there are really a lot of problems at Bayern!
The Munich team traveled to Leverkusen with great self-confidence and bold declarations of war. Two points ahead? The eternal “Vizekusen” will be lost.
The German record champions start their return journey with a bang in their luggage. Bayern was defeated 3-0 in the top flight and was occasionally put in the spotlight by Granit Xhaka & Co. The club’s representatives are therefore angry.
The first to burst his collar after the debacle was Bayern veteran Thomas Müller (34). He complains to Sky: ‘Honestly, I’m pissed. What I miss is – and that’s why I say this publicly: we show a much better approach in training because we play courageously. Not in the game. I’m missing some balls, as I can now quote Oli Kahn. No one has the freedom to just gamble.”
But Müller does not want to hear anything about a coaching conversation: “We had enough players on the field of international caliber. You don’t have to go to the trainer.”
Before the top fight, the Bayern coach hands out the fighting motto: “Pants down, cards on the table” – that is the motto for the match between Bayern and Bayern. After the match, Tuchel was obviously satisfied: “We had a whole week to prepare for it. We wanted to defend very aggressively and not let it get in the way of Leverkusen’s flow of play. But we made incredibly bad decisions. And then our trust disappears.”
The Munich coach was especially concerned about the first goal conceded. “Everyone is just sleeping. This is a very cheap goal.” And that the scorer is the Bayern loanee Josip Stanisic? “There is a nice rule in England: if you loan players out, they cannot play against you. Unfortunately, this rule does not exist here.”
Even during the break – when it was only 0-1 from Bayern’s point of view – former Munich captain Lothar Matthäus (62) had bad thoughts: “Some people at Bayern cannot keep up with this pace.” Matthäus also cannot understand Thomas Tuchel’s switch to a three-man defense for the match. “I don’t know what he was thinking.”
While the seven-time German champion is enthusiastic about Leverkusen, he now sees restless days ahead at Bayern: “Thomas Tuchel will rightly regulate the team and of course the management team is also thinking about what will happen next and how the cohesion at Bayern will be . is still possible. I would say: danger of storms in the Säbener Strasse.”
