Bo Henriksen (48) was ill the day after the 2-2 draw against Lausanne. The Dane has been struggling with a persistent cold for days. It seems that the poor performances and lack of results in recent weeks have left their mark on the FCZ coach’s health. Henriksen does not deny this. “Because I’m rarely sick.”
The gloomy weather suits the Dane’s physical condition, but not his emotional state. Although he is physically weak and the FCZ is already six games without a win, Henriksen is in a good mood and relaxed. He is not afraid for his job, even though the negative series continue in Yverdon on Sunday. “I would be crazy to think about that.” He still has four months left on his contract. “And if someone wants to fire me, he should do so. I do my best every day. That is what counts.”
Henriksen is convinced that he can lead the FCZ out of the negative spiral. But how? “We must once again heed what I preached most when I arrived fourteen months ago: don’t be afraid, just have fun.” Because fear is generally a bad companion in life. “If you are afraid of making mistakes and thinking about them, you will make them.”
After a few restless nights due to a strong cough, Henriksen came to this realization. In his speech to the team he mainly focused on this aspect. «We have to enjoy what we do again and enjoy it. Just like when I was a little kid on the playground.”
The starting position of the FCZ is still good. “We are in fourth place after 21 rounds and are in the quarter-finals of the cup. We took that before the season,” said Henriksen. He cannot say whether his future, which has been unclear for months, is a reason for the recent disappointing results. “I have a very open and honest conversation with Milos Malenovic and the Canepas.” When does he expect a decision? “My wife always asks that,” the Dane said, laughing. “I think soon.” But for now he wants to do one thing again at the FCZ: have fun with football.
