Marcus Rashford (26) is expected to be part of Manchester United’s squad against Wolverhampton on Thursday. Not really worth mentioning as the 26-year-old is the second best league goalscorer behind Scott McTominay (27). However, after recent events, this is not a given.
Last Friday, Rashford returned from a 12-hour binge in Belfast (NIrl) and had to miss team training. According to “The Athletic,” the reason he gave was that he was sick. When the bosses found out what happened, they gave him a severe punishment. He had to pay 650,000 pounds (about 710,000 francs) – two months’ wages for Rashford – and he was left out of the selection for the FA Cup match against Newport County (4-2) last Sunday.
The England international clearly had a great time in the Northern Irish capital. He went to houses with friends. A waitress who was unceremoniously invited to a party at lunch that night tells The Sun: “He was on a mission to get drunk.”
According to her stories, he let himself go so much that she had to put him to bed at three in the morning. He had previously distributed large bundles of cash on the floor. At 7am, Rashford flew back to Manchester on a private jet and training was out of the question.
Discussion has now arisen and the English record champions say that “Rashford takes responsibility for his actions”. The matter was discussed internally and has now been closed. Rashford returned to training on Monday. A “Jadon Sancho 2.0” case could be avoided.
The 23-year-old, who is now on loan to Borussia Dortmund, became involved in a mega argument with coach Erik ten Hag (53). In early September, Sancho was left out of the first-team squad after the Dutch coach accused him of poor training performances.
But instead of resolving the matter internally, Sancho took the social networking route. There he shot against Ten Hag and described himself as a “scapegoat”: “I behaved well in training – I think there are other reasons for this decision.”
Why was Sancho kicked out of the squad, but Rashford is allowed to join again after one match? Ten Hag: “We can handle everything internally, but Jadon has decided to go public.” (ch)
