“My goal is to score more goals,” Pius Dorn (27) told Blick before the start of the second half of the season. Against Lausanne he put his words into action. It is the all-rounder from Lucerne who scores the equalizer after just over an hour and thus heralds the turnaround.
Apart from the goal, Dorn played very well against the Vaudois team. Blick picked him as the best in the game. And the statistics also prove him right. He is one of the best in all categories. Coach Mario Frick (49) recently summarized how important he actually is for the match against Lucerne. “He is the brain of our team,” the Liechtensteiner said about the German at the beginning of January.
Players and coaches know each other from their days together in Vaduz. It was therefore almost inevitable that this collaboration would also work perfectly in Central Switzerland. Dorn has been in Lucerne for over a year and a half. In this short time he has become a leading actor. He is second in the captaincy hierarchy behind Ardon Jashari (21).
“My goal for this season was to lead as a leader and help the young players,” Dorn said. He succeeded. The dressing room with its many young professionals listens to him. The fact that number 20, as a 27-year-old, is already one of the veterans takes some getting used to. “I was the oldest on our team against FCZ in Letzigrund,” he remembers with a smile.
Dorn actually came to Lucerne as a full-back. But now he plays much more offensively. “The function in this system is tailor-made for me,” he says. That’s why the player and the coach want him to score more goals. The goal against Lausanne was only his second of the season.
If Dorn can increase this value, he should slowly but surely become interesting in his home country. However, he is currently not thinking about returning to Germany. “It is not without reason that I recently extended it until 2026.”
