Former European champion Valiyeva’s positive doping test only became known after the team competition at the Winter Games. The now 17-year-old was tested for the banned drug trimetazidine at the national championships in December 2021.

After Russia was disqualified, the US went for gold, ahead of Japan – and Russia. The International Ice Skating Union has published the new rankings. Accordingly, after deducting Valiyeva’s rating, Russia ranks third with 54 points, one point ahead of Canada. The US then wins gold with 65 points, followed by Japan with 63 points.
