Should Mitchell escape after the dismantling?: Despite a successful sequence of chaos – only Kloten can do that

I’m sorry, what? Kloten beats Zurich, Zug and Ajoie twice. And changes coaches.

Days of chaos in Kloten – when will Mitchell pull the cord?

Some media reports, fueled by precise information from a player’s agent, caused the puppet masters in Kloten to plunge the club into chaos. This is what it looks like now: Starting this week, the team will have to make do with a coach (Stephan Mair) who replaces a predecessor (Larry Mitchell) who recently recorded four victories, including two derby successes. Mitchell returns to his traditional position as ‘general manager’ (sports director), but in damaged form: as transfer manager he apparently knew nothing about Mair’s efforts. A dismantling. Maybe Mitchell should consider running away for self-protection? In the Anglo-Saxon world, the repeated rash actions in sports clubs are aptly described as a ‘shit show’; a translation into German is not necessary.

The new coach, Stephan Mair, already coached the emerging ice hockey country Italy, led Schwenningen from the lower house to the DEL, managed HC Thurgau for five seasons and was most recently responsible for the U20 juniors of HC Ambri. His main task now is to keep the team from losing its current winning streak. Paradox. Normally the situation with coaching changes is exactly the opposite. But what is normal in Kloten?

What a difference a day can make

Everyone to Bern, it was said last Friday. In any case, “everyone” meant all eyes; the SCB took on the task of defending its top 6 position against HC Davos. The win that day not only got the SCB back on track, but somehow also threw the Grisons off track. What a difference one day can make! Because at the same time champion Geneva (due to substandard goalkeeping performance) did not put one foot in front of the other (defeats in Langnau and then also against Zurich), Bern was able to obtain a nice cushion again.

Runaway rabbit? Or smart fox?

During the Ticino derby on Friday, Ambri made it clear that they wanted to upset the representatives of the opponent’s top line with Thürkauf, Carr and Joly using all permitted and, if necessary, illegal stylistic means. Captain Daniele Grassi involved Michael Joly in a brawl early on, which resulted in two penalty minutes for both. Grassi takes Joly into the cool box – a conclusion that is only positive for Ambri.

League top scorer Calvin Thürkauf is then exposed to Ambris Tobias Fohrler’s attempts to make something of a bargain. Some clinging and pulling, a few pushes, probably seasoned with a few strong words – but then Thürkauf simply runs away, to the German defender’s disappointment. This leads to a prankster posting a story on Instagram that satirizes this exact process. The words: “Scappa Coniglio”, which in German roughly means: rabbit – or in this case more accurately: scared cat on the run. Maybe Thürkauf is just a smart fox because he didn’t fall for Fohrler. But didn’t Ambri win the competition? But. Nevertheless: a fight can not only result in penalty minutes, but in the worst case also an injury.
