‘Anxiety’, ‘panic attacks’ and being in a wheelchair for weeks: that’s how rocky the road back from Kilde

Aleksander Kilde reports with an injury update.

It happened more than two weeks ago on the Lauberhorn: Norwegian ski topper Aleksander Kilde fell heavily and had to be taken to hospital by helicopter. There followed operations on his shoulder and the realization: the season was over for him.

Now the difficult journey back begins for Kilde. In an Instagram post he shows his fans how difficult it actually is to fight back after an injury.

“Seven weeks in a wheelchair”

For example, there is the constant battle against pain. After the operation he felt the worst pain of his life. “I had to take pain medication every hour,” Kilde explains. “The medication caused anxiety and panic attacks.”

However, in the second week he was able to celebrate some partial successes: for example, he was able to go to the toilet or shower alone for the first time in days. And above all: on Friday, after almost two weeks in a hospital bed, the Norwegian was able to leave the hospital and go home. “These small steps give me energy,” he confirms.

However, the damage to the shoulder is significant, as is the nerve damage in the leg and toes. Kilde will therefore not be able to walk in the coming weeks. “I have to prepare for seven weeks in a wheelchair,” he reveals. In any case, the prognosis is positive: “The doctor expects me to make a full recovery.”

Photos four and five of the article clearly show how bad Kilde really had it. The deep flesh wound on the leg, cut open by the skis when he fell, is not for the faint of heart. Watch at your own risk! (sbe)
