It’s over in the summer. Liverpool’s successful coach Jürgen Klopp (56) no longer sees fit and is saying goodbye. “I’m almost out of energy,” he announced his departure in an emotional interview on the club’s own homepage.

The news comes out of nowhere. Klopp would have had a contract until 2026 and Liverpool comfortably lead the Premier League. Nobody thinks about an early end to the collaboration. Wrong thought. Klopp informed those responsible about his decision in November. Now it’s officially out.

Klopp, the savior

Liverpool fans are in shock. So is the sadness. In the city of the Beatles they learned to love Klopp. For some, he is part of the city’s inventory, just like its famous musicians. Because it is the German who woke Liverpool up. Above all, these are the Premier League title from the 19/20 season and the victory in the Champions League in 2019.

Klopp’s time at Liverpool starts in October 2015. The Reds have had a mixed year, sitting a disappointing tenth in the Premier League and falling short of expectations in the Europa League (with Sion in the group). After Brendan Rodgers was fired, the club owners brought in the former successful coach of Mainz and Dortmund.

“I am the Normal”

The first press conference shows that the collaboration between Klopp and Liverpool will be something special. He is asked how he would describe himself compared to José Mourinho, the Special One. «I’m a very normal boy, I come from the Black Forest. My mother may be sitting in front of the TV watching this press conference and not understanding a word of it, but she is very proud. I’m a normal guy.” So far so good and continues: “I’m the Normal one.”

At the same press conference, Klopp also spoke about his sporting goals: “If I sit here in four years’ time, I think we will have won a title in that time.” He kept the promise. And how. The trophy display has grown by a total of seven trophies in recent years. This makes Klopp one of the most successful managers in the club’s history.

Is there another trophy to celebrate?

Liverpool has been celebrating in recent years. Especially when the steelpot returned to the city after 14 years. Or when exactly thirty years later another championship party was held. From victory to victory, the fans’ love for Klopp has grown. They dedicated a fan song to him a long time ago. It’s called ‘I’m So Happy’ and uses the melody of the famous Beatles song ‘I Feel Fine’.

Will Klopp and Liverpool still be able to celebrate a trophy at the end of this season? That wouldn’t surprise anyone. But that was completely different a year ago. Liverpool was in crisis. For some, Klopp had reached the end. There were parallels with his last year in Dortmund, when the atmosphere was outside and BVB was a shadow of its former self.

“Klopp’s Last Dance”

But Klopp managed to turn things around and create a new, successful team. But now he’s had enough. “I haven’t lived a normal life for too long. I don’t want to wait until I’m too old for a normal life. I have to try it at least once to see what it is like and whether I will miss my current life,” he says, open and honest as always.

Liverpool will certainly miss him very much. But we are not there yet and the season is still long. Klopp hinted at this several times in his farewell video. “Klopp’s last dance in Liverpool” has only just begun.
