Bruno Hayoz worked as a freelancer for Blick for 39 years. He was ‘polyvalent’, as Lucien Favre, with whom he had maintained a warm relationship since his days as Yverdon coach, would call it: he reported on football, ice hockey and sold gravestones full-time, among other things. Together with his son Joel he ran the Marba-Granit company.
For Blick, the man from Düdingen FR was the link with Welschland for many years, reporting on Gottéron, Xamax, Yverdon, Lausanne and Servette. Now the passionate sports journalist died after a long illness at the age of 66.
In 1999, after the legendary game Xamax – FCZ (0:1), when the headlines were already written, it was Hayoz who warned: “It’s not ready yet.” That’s how it was: the team from Zurich had one too many foreigners on the score sheet, lost at the green table and crashed into the promotion/relegation round.
While he experienced success with Xamax, he was denied it with Gottéron. Hayoz could never hide that Freiburg was the club he loved.
Everyone at ‘his’ clubs on the other side of the Röstigraben probably liked Bruno. If you were angry, the ‘bad guys’ were in Zurich. He will be missed there too. See you soon, Bruno!
