Shaqiri back soon?: This is how the Super League benefits from international club networks

Ineos started Lausanne-Sport in 2017. GC, FC Lugano and Yverdon are now also in foreign hands and are part of an international network.

Such conglomerates are the future of football. From a Swiss perspective they mean: Because the Super League clubs do not belong to the Bel-Etage, they are at the bottom of the food chain. In short, instantaneous water heaters for the many talents that come together within a cooperative. Or parking for those professionals who do not meet the requirements of the premium clubs in a network.

Nice and ManUtd behind it

Italian prodigy Simone Pafundi (17) is the current highlight of talent that wants to make the leap to the big stage via the Super League. It is unimaginable that Pafundi would have found his way to promotion to the Super League without the financial strength of Ineos and without the involvement of Lausanne-Sport with the top clubs Nice and Manchester United!

This also applies to other players. Pafundi’s future teammate Antoine Bernede (24), trained at Paris St. Germain, was attracted by the bulging wallet and prospects in the Ineos network. This also applies to his compatriot Noë Dussenne (31), who came over from the Belgian top club Standard Liège last summer.

Yverdon, until last summer a provincial club that had to fight for every cent, can now afford an Algerian international. And in Paul Bernardoni (26) we have a goalkeeper in his prime who can play almost 200 games in Ligue 1.

Shaqiri back in Lugano?

In Ticino, Renato Steffen (32), player of the national team, even decided to play for FC Lugano. Because thanks to the investment of American billionaire Joe Mansueto, they pay him a salary that he would not get anywhere else in the Super League. And because the door is now open for the former YB and FCB star to move to partner club Chicago Fire. There are worse prospects for ending your career. Xherdan Shaqiri (32) could one day take the opposite path. Should he want to play in Switzerland again after the Chicago adventure? In any case, he has used the connections several times to stay fit in Lugano during the break in competition in the US.

Looking at the standings, one thing can be said: the new owners from Los Angeles are linked to Bayern Munich. It is therefore quite possible that the German series champion will send his rough diamonds to Zurich for cutting in the future.
