“I doubted whether it would go away”: Nati hopes that Omeragic has solved the migraine problem

The minor setback that Becir Omeragic suffered in mid-January does not reflect the picture that best describes his last months. The Swiss Montpellier defender is substituted at half-time in Brest, his team losing 2-0. Omeragic does not leave the field for sporting reasons. He suffers a bout of weakness in the catacombs after suffering from stomach flu for the past few days. He then reported to Blick that he was doing well again.

Omeragic is actually running smoothly in France. Since his switch from FCZ to Montpellier last summer, the 22-year-old from Geneva has been flourishing since Saturday, immediately competing for a regular place and playing most of his matches in Ligue 1. The former great talent, who made his debut at the age of 17 FCZ in the Super League and as an 18-year-old in the national team, which once carried a price tag of 10 million for FCZ boss Ancillo Canepa, is now on its way up again. That wasn’t always the case.

Omeragic was worried about his career

Omeragic was frequently thwarted. In addition to a few injuries (fibula fracture, meniscus), the Nati hope with four international matches had to deal with recurring migraine attacks. The attacks culminated in the then FCZ defender collapsing to the ground and being taken away on a stretcher during a match in Lausanne in May 2021. Omeragic previously had to stop training due to the migraine and six months later he missed a national U21 match.

Omeragic can now make everything clear, in an interview with Blick he says: “I haven’t had any migraine attacks since then. I examined the matter with the doctor and we did tests. Everything is fine there now. I took some medicine at the time, but didn’t have to do anything special to cure it. Time has healed it.”

Looking back, he confirms that he was worried about his career! “Yes, those were difficult moments for me. Having to leave such a game with problems in my mind, I doubted whether it would go away. But the doctors immediately encouraged me.”

In Montpellier he appreciates the city center and the sea

Omeragic has put the migraine problem behind it. Now he wants to continue his career step by step and return to the national team, where he played four matches three years ago. “The European Championship in the summer is a goal for me.” He is in contact with Nati manager Pierluigi Tami. Omeragic speaks of an understandable plan they have for him in the U21 and A national teams. The good performances at the club give him a boost; most recently he was even in the Ligue 1 team in the round of the major sports newspaper “L’Equipe”.

To make his European Championship dream come true, Omeragic finds good conditions in Montpellier, in the south of France. The young man from Geneva has moved into the city center. He estimates that from there he can quickly reach the training center and not far from the coast. “The calm of the sea is good for the head,” he says. There it is again, the head. But he doesn’t have to worry about Omeragic anymore.
