Napkin clipper Chris Bedia has officially been a Union Berlin player since last week.

Chris Bedia (27) has only been in Köpenick for a few days. After two years, the Super League top scorer (ten goals this season) left Servette last week and signed with Union Berlin. At the Bundesliga club he should compensate for the departure of Sheraldo Becker (28, to Real Sociedad).

Debut against Bayern?

Since Union’s league match against Mainz was postponed on Friday evening, Bedia is still waiting for his first appearance in the Bundesliga. This will probably follow on Wednesday. Then the Iron Men meet Bayern at the Allianz Arena. “He is certainly an option for the starting line-up,” coach Nenad Bjelica (52) said on Monday.

Bjelica explains that he especially appreciates the physical condition of his new striker. “Physically he is in very good condition.” No wonder, Bedia has completed all the preparation with Servette and is therefore coming to Berlin in top condition.

Lukaku comparison: “Quite similar man”

But you cannot expect miracles from the new acquisition, Bjelica makes it clear. «Everything is new for him. He still needs some time to adapt.”

The first impressions give the Union coach confidence that Bedia can soon make the offensive difference in favor of his team. Because: “His playing style reminds me of the Belgian top striker Romelu Lukaku. When it comes to goals he is a similar guy.”

A great comparison. Which doesn’t exactly temper expectations. But it also shows that Bedia could become one of those players who will have a great career from Switzerland. (AFP/sbe)
