Big surprise in the Bundesliga! Bayern has to give up at home against Werder Bremen (0-1) – so far the weakest away team in the competition. For the first time in fifteen years, Werder celebrated a victory in Munich. Ex-Bayer Mitchell Weiser (29) scored the golden goal.
Leverkusen, who won in extremis in Leipzig last weekend, benefited enormously from the bankruptcy. The “Werkself” around national team captain Granit Xhaka (31) moved seven points clear to the top of the table. And is now in the best position to replace Bayern after eleven years of series championships.
This slowly but surely causes unrest in Munich. Once again the Bavarian star group seems bloodless and unimaginative. “For more than seventy minutes I didn’t have the feeling that we were playing for victory,” coach Thomas Tuchel (50) complained about DAZN. And really gives his players a kick. Tuchel complains about the “lack of bite” and “sloppy dueling behavior” and states: “Such a performance goes against every law of competitive sport.”
A harsh judgement. Tuchel underlined this again at the PK when he said: “We did not play seventy minutes as a team that wanted to earn a victory, that played for the championship.” But Tuchel finds it difficult to explain his team’s ‘inconsistent’ play. “I no longer feel like saying that we are training well. Nobody believes me anymore.”
Thomas Müller (34) is also annoyed by the sobering performance in his own stadium. And it becomes clear. “We did not behave well and begged for it,” he told DAZN. ‘We were far too slow. There was no life in it. That was a slap in the face!” Moreover, says Müller, “every player now has to question himself”.
Shortly afterwards he breaks off the interview and disappears from the mixed zone. The reason: Werder defender Niklas Stark (28), drunk with victory, dances through the catacombs and fills the stadium with a Mallorca party song. “Now you realize it was important to them,” says Müller, before sobering up and leaving Bremen to celebrate their big win.
