Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff are heading for a direct duel in the semi-finals. Defending champion Sabalenka easily solved her round of 16 challenge against American Amanda Anisimova on Sunday with 6:3, 6:2, and US Open champion Gauff also had no problems in the 6:1, 6:2 against Pole Magdalena Frech.
Sabalenka (25), who won her only Grand Slam title to date in Melbourne a year ago, is in top form at the first major tournament of the year and has not lost a set in four matches. «I’m just happy with my level. I want to stay here until the last day,” the Belarusian said.
For the only 19-year-old Gauff, it was the first time that she reached the quarter-finals in Melbourne. The American is also in impressive form, after convincingly defending her title at the WTA tournament in Auckland at the beginning of this year.
