The big dominator of the World Cup weekend in St. Moritz is Johannes Lochner (33). After the two-man race on Saturday, the German also won the four-man race on Sunday. As Lochner celebrates in the finish area in Celerina GR, he suddenly holds in his hands an impressively large magnum bottle of champagne, which is not part of the official victory ceremony.

Lochner laughs when he sees who hands him the bottle. It is the former Swiss bobsleigh pilot Andy Zeidler who keeps a promise.

An agreement from Innsbruck

Zeidler, who has been organizing the Senior European Cup for years together with former Swiss Sliding head coach Wolfgang Stampfer, and is currently the fastest bobsleigh pilot in the world, recently met at the bobsleigh track in Innsbruck (Austria) and got to talking. With the upcoming World Cup event in Switzerland in mind, the bottle of champagne came up. Zeidler told Lochner at the time: “If the four of you win in St. Moritz, I’ll give you a magnum bottle!”

That’s how it happens. Lochner defeated his arch-rival Francesco Friedrich (33) twice in the intra-German duel in the Engadine, won the heavy sled for the third time this winter and once again took the lead in the overall World Cup. Lochner gets a stiff drink of champagne on top.
