Both. A lot of money means a lot of attention. Red Bull’s goal as owner of Team Bora is immediate success. Not everyone likes that, there are calls for a salary ceiling for the drivers or budget limits for the teams. Because talent is increasingly being bought away from smaller teams, even though there is no official transfer market like in football.

Cycling legend Fabian Cancellara is mentor and owner. A resounding name. But: Tudor is not yet one of the top teams. They want to grow organically and have a U23 team from which talents will be gradually integrated into the professional team. From 2026, Tudor aims for automatic qualification for all WorldTour competitions, the highest category in cycling. The same applies to the second Swiss team, Q36.5, but this is much more internationally positioned.

In the WorldTour there were fourteen last season, now there are eight. Not a good development! Special attention should be paid to the Aargau talent Jan Christen: the 19-year-old has class and is very confident.

His death during the Tour of Switzerland is a human tragedy. At the same time, Mäder was the greatest Swiss touring talent. A driver with his qualities is currently not in sight.

It’s getting bigger and more popular. What is worrying, however, is that hardly any new Swiss women are working their way up the ranks. Marlen Reusser is 32, Elise Chabbey is 30 – they won’t be driving forever.

Last season he won seven races, the same as in the three previous years. However, they were not prestigious competitions. He now wants to change that.

Along the way, hope mainly rests on the shoulders of Reusser and Stefan Küng. Both should be among the medal candidates in the time trials – Reusser should even be the favorite.

“The World Cup will be a big party,” says Swiss cycling boss Thomas Peter. Last year there were headlines mainly about the objections of Zurich hospitals and traders – eventually an agreement was reached. The World Cup starts on September 21.

The Dane Jonas Vingegaard recently triumphed twice. But be careful: Tadej Pogacar (Sln) has vowed revenge and massively upgraded his team. The Belgian cycling genius Remco Evenepoel and the Slovenian veteran Primoz Roglic are also hot.

Before attacks. Unlike other sports, these are hardly preventable because you are moving on public roads. The wars in Ukraine and Gaza create additional danger. Why? An example: Team Israel led by Chris Froome (Gb), the four-time Tour winner, is supported by the Israeli state. It could become a target for terrorists.
