Silver and bronze for the Dutchman at the World Windfoiling Championships, De Geus seventh

At the World Windfoiling Championships in Brest, France, Luuc van Opzeeland and Huig-Jan Tak managed to finish on the podium. Opzeeland won silver and Tak bronze. The gold was the German Sebastian Kördel. In the women’s category, Lilian de Geus did not make it past the quarter-finals.

Olympic windsurfing champion Kiran Badloe, who retrained to become a windfoiler last year, was unable to take part in the World Cup due to an elbow injury. All the greater is the chance for 23-year-old Van Opzeeland and 28-year-old Tak to step into the limelight.

In the extremely exciting final there was no draw in the battle up to the last buoy. Kördel, who was already dominant in the fleet races, was by far the fastest on the last leg to the finish.

De Geus seventh

Among the women, Marta Meggetti was the strongest. Lilian de Geus, who like Badloe has started to focus on foiling, couldn’t get past seventh place.

The three-time windsurfing world champion was in the lead in the quarterfinals, but opted for a different course and lost three Israeli boards. In the final, two of those Israelis, Daniela Peleg and Maya Morris, were no match for the Italian Maggetti. They took second and third place respectively.
