There is still some hesitation: Corinne Suter is fighting her way back to the top after difficult weeks.

Corinne Suter (29) is still waiting for a top result this winter. That doesn’t change on Sunday in the Super-G – she finishes in 13th place. Sound disappointing? But it’s only at first glance. Because: firstly, Suter only lost 43 hundredths in second place, but above all she seems transformed compared to Saturday – in a positive way.

‘That was a step in the right direction. Not everything works yet. There are sections where I am very fast. But also others where I am very slow. I still can’t get my skis clean everywhere. But I know where the problems are – that helps,” she says.

“Another woman in training”

You should know: Suter lost a lot of substance due to weeks of illness and missed countless kilometers of training with the team – she also had to miss the camp in Copper Mountain (USA). «I notice that in the beginning I am not the same as before. Otherwise I will be there with full strength and I know what I can do. But now we have to wait and see. I am no longer the same in the race as I was before.”

Head coach Beat Tschuor sees it immediately. “Corinne is a very different woman in training, so she works brilliantly. But during competitions, she still searches for the confidence to completely trust her instincts. It still takes some patience, but the direction is good,” said the Graubünden resident.

Joy on the chairlift

The fact that the discipline balls in downhill and super-G are currently still far away does not matter to the Olympic champion. “I never think about the bullets anyway. The most important thing is that you have fun and enjoy driving.” Were both ultimately lost?

Suter says no, but admits she was bitterly disappointed after her failure in Saturday’s downhill. «This morning I was sitting on the chairlift, looking down and thinking: It’s the coolest thing that I can get down the mountain here. I love skiing more than anything – the ups and downs are part of it. I’m even happier that I have such a great environment. Everyone helps me a lot.”
