A podium finish for Lara Gut-Behrami, plus six other Swiss women in the top 17. It’s a good day for Swiss-Ski in Zauchensee. The biggest laugh comes from someone you least expected: Stephanie Jenal (25). “I never dreamed of that,” she says after finishing twelfth.

In fact, Jenal’s second-best career ranking is like a fairytale. Why? Judgement. At the end of November 2023, Jenal receives a hard blow. The Graubünden does not stand neatly on the skis during a combination of turns. “It bent my left knee in and out,” she says. Jenal fears the worst. “I have never torn my ACL in my career. At that moment I feared that the time had come.”

An MRI makes everything clear. At least partially. An internal ligament strain and a bone bruise are diagnosed. ‘I was really lucky. At the same time, I knew I couldn’t let myself get stressed after that.”

She is strongest in Super-G

Jenal left her skis alone for three weeks and missed important races. “It’s great that I finished so far ahead in my first World Cup appearance of the winter,” she says happily.

Jenal now sees the rest of the weekend in Zauchensee as an encore – although she has a lot of confidence in herself, especially in the Super-G on Sunday. “I have confidence in my body and know I can be fast.” And who knows: maybe Jenal will strike again.
