“Extremely strict”: this is how Ralf and David Schumacher live together

Living together in Salzburg: David (r.) and Ralf Schumacher.

David Schumacher (22) is the youngest hope of the legendary racing family. He is currently still racing in the DTM racing series and has not yet reached the big podium. Father Ralf (48), who was already racing in Formula 1 at his son’s current age, is the young boy’s great role model.

The father is very critical of his son: “Some things could have gone differently for David in recent years,” he says in an interview with “Bild”. From his point of view, David “sometimes approaches things too loosely.” Yet he is already very proud of him: “Everyone has to find their own way.”

Dad, the early bird

The father-son duo has been living together in Salzburg for several years. This is harmonious and works very well, but there are still some differences between the two: “Dad usually wakes up much earlier than me. He is a real early riser and is usually awake at five in the morning. He can’t sit still and has to do something. “I, on the other hand, am more the type who likes to stay in bed a little longer,” David told “Bild”.

If you ask his son, Ralf Schumacher is a very strict father: “It depends on the situation. He was extremely strict when it came to behavior or table manners.” He was also quite demanding when it came to fitness. David is happy with that today: “When I was a bit overweight as a teenager, he encouraged me, and I am very grateful to him for that.”

“I realized I had to go my own way”

However, this has now decreased and Ralf has “loosened up a bit”: “He has realized that I have to go my own way, I am already 22 years old,” says David. Despite his relaxed attitude when it comes to racing, Ralf will likely continue to keep a close eye on his son. Ultimately, he should become the next great Schumacher on the circuit. (bjl)
