“Flim’s argument”: FCB immediately dismisses head groundskeeper after 13 years

Marc Studach (50) has been caring for the sacred lawn in Joggeli for more than 13 years. The head greenkeeper at FC Basel has now lost his job with immediate effect. The old employee has already disappeared from the FCB website. Studach himself does not want to talk about his dismissal, referring to FCB. Because it is an internal personnel decision, the club does not want to comment on the reasons for the separation.

As Blick heard from those around him at FCB, Studach was informed of the decision last Monday – after a number of weeks of vacation, which he had to take involuntarily due to overtime accrued.

Employees checked?

During his forced holiday, the lawn in the St. Jakob Park would not have been in optimal condition. That’s why Studach regularly contacted his grounds maintenance team from home and placed smaller orders.

This was apparently a problem for those responsible at FCB. The accusation: the head greenkeeper allegedly kept an eye on employees while on vacation. He certainly didn’t have that, a source tells Blick and describes the reason for his dismissal as a ‘weak argument’.

Studach received a UEFA award in 2016

It couldn’t be due to Studach’s professional skills. On the occasion of the 2016 Europa League final between Liverpool and Sevilla (1:3), he and his team prepared such a fantastic pitch that St. Jakob Park was awarded a gold plaque by UEFA. This still hangs in the Joggeli Catacombs.
