It was a challenge with great consequences: Last weekend, the Zurich dialect star Dabu (42) from Dabu Fantastic re-recorded the legendary song “Vogellisi” with the World Cup fans in Adelboden. A special challenge that the musician received from Sunrise, which has been heavily involved in skiing since last season as the main partner of Swiss-Ski. And this music project succeeded: “The fans really participated and the song turned out great. A real après-ski hit,” says Dabu happily. You can read more about this in the two documentary videos in the article.
But there is something very special associated with completing the challenge: a visit to the Lauberhorn race, which Dabu has looked forward to all his life. The reason: “As a little boy, my family and I came to the Wengenschnee ski camp in Wengen during our sports holidays,” he says. “Since then, it has always been a big dream of mine to immerse myself in the ski racing cosmos of the Lauberhorn.”
The ski area in the Jungfrau region with its great racing myth fascinated him from the start. “I can just relax here perfectly on the slopes.” And the attraction didn’t disappear into adulthood. Dabu therefore remained loyal to the ski camp from his youth on and is now associated with “Wengenschnee” as co-organizer and leader. The musician will stay in the mountain village of the Bernese Oberland for a total of three weeks in February. “These are weeks where we have fun on the slopes or in the snow in general with a wide variety of people – and where camp life is very important. A project that is close to my heart!”
In addition, Dabu always remained a big fan of ski racing. The musician describes his fascination with this sport as follows: “When I step on stage at a performance, I always have the image of the start of a ski race in my head: the headlights turn on, it starts. Then every second, every action counts.” The adrenaline rushes through the body, the heart races. “Almost like a ski racer when he takes off from the starting gate,” he says. “From that moment on, every detail counts. Then it is full concentration, full commitment, full throttle.”
In both music and skiing, the smallest details, the right tuning, the product and the perfect adjustment are crucial for success. As is the case with Marco Odermatt, so that he can ski as successfully as he does now.
Dabu is looking forward to serving Odi and Co. can be seen live for the first time on the classic Laubernhor descent as part of its own Sunrise Moment (see box for more information). Because the ski camps take place in February, a visit to the race weekend in January has never happened. “It’s all the better that it works now!” Besides the race, the musician would be happy with something else. “It would be great to even get to know Marco Odermatt or one of the other ski stars personally!”
