She became world champion in Cortina (2021) and Olympic champion in Beijing (2022). Corinne Suter (29) celebrated her first victory on the major ski stage in Zauchenchsee (Austria). Exactly four years ago, the woman from Schwyz triumphed on the Gamskogel. «This victory was very special. Also because it came as a surprise. It was a beautiful day that I was able to celebrate with my family,” she remembers.

Mother Silvia, friend Angelo and aunt Priska, among others, even arrived – there was a party and a toast with champagne. At the time, Suter didn’t think she would win much, especially at major events. “TRUE. Anyway, I always have a good feeling when I get here.”

Honor after training

Will it work again now? After the only downhill training (8th place), Suter was honored once – at the Hotel Zauchenseehof by former downhill world champion Michael Walchhofer (48, Austria). She gives her hand and footprints – the result is a photo that hoteliers can rent and thus generate money for youth and disabled sports. “It’s a cool campaign that I enjoy participating in,” says Suter.

Walchhofer is also happy. «Corinne is an absolute top athlete. For me she is one of the biggest contenders for victory, especially in the descent.”

The best Swiss woman in training is Lara Gut-Behrami (32), the Ticino resident comes sixth. Three Italians finish first: Federica Brignone is the fastest, followed by Nicol Delago and Sofia Goggia.
