Again in Wengen: Swiss ski hope Marco Kohler falls tragically

This doesn’t look good: Marco Kohler needs to be supported by civil protection.

Joy and sadness are sometimes so close together. On the one hand, Marco Odermatt (26) wins the shortened Lauberhorn descent and thus the first race in this discipline. His good friend Marco Kohler (26) starts with number 35 and falls into the Hanneggschuss.

He immediately waves and wants to give the first all-clear, you think. But the Bernese Oberlander probably asked for help because he fell along the way. Helpers quickly rush forward and take care of Kohler, who fell heavily in the finish S in Wengen four years ago – and has since been back on the Lauberhorn for the first time.

He has to go to the hospital

Kohler has to be taken away by helicopter. Walter Reusser, alpine director at Swiss-Ski, tells SRF that Kohler has probably injured his right knee: “He has been stabilized and is now being taken to a hospital for further examination.” One Marco wins, the other gets injured. Reusser: “The mood is difficult.”

Odermatt, the great triumphant, stands at the finish line and can’t believe it, looks worriedly at the video wall. Franjo von Allmen also suffered from the fall. The 22-year-old starts immediately after Kohler, but because the starting intervals are shortened, he is already on his way and has to be waved away. Despite a few racing meters in his legs and a helicopter flight back to the start, Von Allmen made it into the top 20 and finished 14th.
