Because the canceled Super-G in St. Moritz GR will be moved to Zauchensee (Austria) on Friday, only one training session will take place for Saturday’s descent.

And the Italians are leaving their mark on this. Federica Brignone clearly sets the best time. Her compatriots Nicol Delago and Sofia Goggia are behind her, 41 and 48 hundredths behind respectively. With the exception of the Austrians Mirjam Puchner and Adriane Rädler, all other athletes lost more than a second from the best time.

The best Swiss woman is Lara Gut-Behrami in 6th place. She loses 1.12 seconds compared to Brignone. Corinne Suter is four hundredths behind her in eighth place. The other Swiss women miss the top 10.

Slope too gentle in some places

The condition of the slopes is something to talk about for the Swiss. “In some places the slope is gentle, in others it is hard. It is not easy, you have to constantly adapt,” says Priska Nufer (15th). Jasmine Flury (19th) sees it the same way: “It’s on the softer side at the top. I was having a hard time and didn’t really feel comfortable. The track is cool, but it didn’t work out well today.”

The drivers are technically challenged in Zauchensee. “This descent has everything it needs,” says Michelle Gisin (17th). “What makes it difficult is that we are only there every two years. It is technical, has sliding sections, waves and several jumps.”

Delia Durrer (40th) experienced something new in Zauchensee: “I rode the upper part for the first time, it was a big challenge. There are some pitfalls along the way. Too bad we only have one training. I know where I have problems and where to start.”
