Every sport wants such an ambassador. Bobsled legend Beat Hefti (45) is more committed than ever to fast sledding on ice and is tireless in inspiring the people around him. “Let me know if you want to come to the bobsled track!” heard Olympic ski cross champion Ryan Regez (30) when he started talking to Hefti during the 2022 Super10Battle.

This tempting bobsleigh offer remains in the mind of the Bernese. Now this weekend the time had come. The ski crossers around Regez are at a training camp in the run-up to the World Cup event in Engadin at the end of January. One Olympic champion tells another that he would be willing to race around the ice rink.

Like a roller coaster ride

What is actually planned is a ride in a monobob. The single-seater is suitable to give novice pilots a first feeling for bobsleigh. “But on Saturday there was also the opportunity to take a guest bobsleigh ride with Beat,” Regez tells Blick.

What an adrenaline program for the ski crosser, who also comes from an action sport. “It was a lot of fun, it was a really cool experience and something very different. “It can perhaps best be compared to a roller coaster ride,” says Regez.

A guest bobsleigh ride with two Olympic champions from different sports in a four-man sled – that has almost never happened before. The next day, Regez goes a little slower to Celerina GR. Because the monobob is considerably lighter and the Bernese starts from a beginner’s start. “You have to make very fine movements on the control cables,” says Regez.

Regez wants to bobsled again

Because Oliver Gyger (24), who knows Regez well from his homeland in the Bernese Oberland, is present next to Hefti, he has a wealth of coaching know-how at his disposal before his baptism of fire at the helm. Gyger is the pusher of the successful team led by Michael Vogt (26), currently the fastest Swiss.

“I will definitely go bobsled again,” Regez assures enthusiastically after his bobsleigh adventure. Does he even want to become Olympic champion in a second discipline? The triumphant one from Beijing laughs and says: “Absolutely not. I have enough to do to be at the forefront of my traditional field!”
